Bluefin Blowout Raises 8k for Gloucester Education Foundation
Partnering for a good cause.

Gloucester, MA – The 4th annual Bluefin Blowout was able to raise $8,000.00 for the Gloucester Education Foundation, through its partnership with the Boston Bruins Foundation.

More than 40 boats took to the waters in this year’s event, in search of the Bluefin tuna. Duck Soup from Pt. Judith, Rhode Island pulled into the weigh-in station on Friday with an impressive 324-pounder. The tuna proved elusive at this year’s event, however, the generosity of the captains who participated the Bluefin Blowout was not!

Rene Rancourt officially kicked off this year’s event with his rendition of the American anthem, followed by a game-winning performance from Bob Sweeney, who led the fundraising efforts by donating several Boston Bruins memorabilia. Sefatia Romeo Theken, Mayor of Gloucester followed up with a motivational speech that rallied the Captain’s in help support this great initiative.

A good time was had by all – for a great cause!

Bob Sweeney’s enthusiasm and active role in raising this funding was instrumental to this year’s fundraising success, said Rob Bouley.

The Gloucester Education Foundation’s goal is to help the Gloucester Public School District be one of the best school districts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
